White Wolf Gaming Studio has come up
with a backdrop for LARPs as well as a system to resolve challenges which
cannot be played out in real life. The first part, the backdrop, is referred to
as the World of Darkness. The World of Darkness is a darker, more gothic world
that mirrors our own in most ways.
The stark difference comes down to the
focus of most of the stories told within the World of Darkness. For, in this
world, exists vampires that manipulate every facet of human life (unbeknownst
to mortals) referred to as Kindred, half-wolf/half-human Garou that fight to
protect their mother earth from evil, Mages who warp and bend reality to their
vision at will, and other fictional creatures that serve to be the primary
actors.
Now, of course, this is not real life
but merely a form of theater, so there are some things that we cannot do. For
example, if one of these characters in the story decides to punch another
character we can’t have one player decking another to the floor!
Because of the ultimate rule in LARPing
to "respect other players" there needs to be another way to resolve
who would win the resulting fight. There is also the issue of how to deal with
these fantastical characters and the extra-human things they can sometimes do.
All of this is described in several
books released by White Wolf designed for Storytellers and players alike to
familiarize themselves with setting up a chronicle in this World of Darkness.
It may seem a little daunting at first, but we assure you it is quite easy to
get used to.
Because Shadow's Crossing deals with
mature and graphic themes our
game is for adults 18 and over. Exceptions are allowed for players aged 16 and
17 with parental or legal guardian signed permission.
Such players will be expected to behave
with maturity. Players are required to fill out and
sign a release form prior to game play. If you do not have a release form on
file, please see a ST. Each player is responsible for collecting and reading a
house rules packet upon their first gaming session with Shadow’s Crossing.
All players play with the understanding
that the staff nor players of Shadow's Crossing cannot, and does not, guarantee
the safety and/or well-being of players or staff.
